|Position Title:||Assistant/Associate Professor of Epigenetics|
POSITION: Assistant/Associate Professor with an emphasis in mammalian epigenetics. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position with research (65%), teaching (25%), and service (10%) responsibilities.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and lead an independent, extramurally-funded, internationally-recognized research program in the field of epigenetic mechanisms regulating production, health, and disease of livestock. The candidate will be expected to enhance a multidisciplinary faculty to lead the nation into this transformational era of livestock production. The strategic hiring of an epigeneticist will complement and extend current research initiatives and strengthen an already strong faculty in the Department of Animal Science. This position will serve a critical need for the Department of Animal Science in its effort to achieve excellence in five Areas of Excellence: 1) Cattle Adapted to Tropical and Subtropical Environments; 2) Pregnancy and Developmental Programming; 3) Quantifiable Animal Performance; 4) Student and Stakeholder Engagement; and 5) Safety, Quality, and Nutrition of Food Products. The appointee will develop a graduate course in epigenetics and assist in undergraduate education associated with the recently revised curriculum. Investigators that utilize domestic livestock species and/or laboratory animals as research models for mammalian health and animal production are encouraged to apply. Applicants demonstrating significant success in research productivity and accomplishments may also be eligible for the Burkhart Endowed Professorship for Beef Cattle Research. Distributions from this endowment must be used in accordance with the terms of the agreement and in accordance with University guidelines in the Department of Animal Science within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in Genetics, Animal Science, or related field with emphasis on epigenetics is required. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Evidence of outstanding research potential is required for consideration for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank. Prior faculty-level experience, evidence of successful grantsmanship, and outstanding research accomplishments are required for appointment at the Associate Professor rank. A demonstrated ability or potential to maintain a strong graduate program is required.
