|Position Title:||Avian Physiology, Assistant Professor|
Mississippi State University Department of Poultry Science invites applications for a faculty position with expertise in avian physiology, with preference for individuals with experience in avian reproductive physiology. This is a full time, tenure-track, 9-month position, with a 60% Research/40% Teaching appointment. The research focus may include basic and/or applied research approaches in any of the following areas: fertility (male and female), hatchability, broiler breeders, sperm quality, egg production, embryo development, and in ovo applications. Other research interests may include the impact of environmental management factors on avian reproductive physiology. The teaching responsibilities will include Avian Reproduction or Avian Anatomy and Physiology, with the expectation of creating an additional course in the specific area of interest of the successful candidate. Although this position does not include an Extension component, outreach to the Mississippi Poultry Industry will be expected and encouraged. Participation in departmental, university, and professional society governance is expected as a normal component of a faculty position.
PhD in poultry science or related field with poultry expertise is required. The successful candidate will be expected to develop nationally recognized teaching and research programs in the subject discipline, pursue extramural funds in support of research aims, and publish results in peer-reviewed journals. In addition to the potential for maintaining an active research program, a strong emphasis will be placed on demonstrated ability to communicate and teach effectively, to interact and collaborate with colleagues, and to operate as a member of a research team.

Mississippi State Poultry Science is one of six stand-alone poultry departments in the country, with a 12 acre research farm adjacent to the main campus, that includes a feed mill, hatchery, layer facility, numerous broiler research houses, a BSL II live bird research facility, and a processing plant. Starkville is a town of approximately 25,000 located in North Mississippi, approximately equidistant between Jackson and Tupelo, MS, and Tuscaloosa, AL.
