The Department of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences at the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Animal Science, tenure-track, 9-month academic year appointment, with an anticipated starting date of August 1, 2019.
To begin August 1, 2019. To ensure full consideration, applications should be submitted by January 15, 2019.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate courses in livestock animal science, animal breeding and genetics, and a graduate course in animal genetics and genomics, as well as other courses in animal sciences according to departmental needs. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
Develop an independent research program focusing on integrating quantitiative genetics with comparative and functional genomics to identify economically important traits in a vareity of livestock species, epigenetics/genomic imprinting, or according to departmental needs. Secure extramural funding to support research projects.
Cooperative research within the department, with other departments within CTAHR, University of Hawaii at Manoa and other partnering institutions is strongly encouraged.
Provide service to the department, college, university, and professional community.
Doctorate from a college or university of recognized standing in Animal Science or related field with emphasis in epigenomics, nutrigenomics, functional genomics and GSEA. ABD candidates may be considered, all degree requirements must be completed at the time of hire.
Demonstrated ability as a teacher.
Demonstrated scholarly achievement.
Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others.
Two (2) years of postdoctoral research experience.
A record of peer-reviewed publications in genetics or animal science.
Experience in working with multiple livestock or aquatic species.
Successful record of grantsmanship.
Experience in livestock or aquatic breeding programs, or livestock farming operations.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
Demonstrated ability to be a student mentor.
