|Position Title:||Associate Professor/Professor & Extension Beef Cattle Specialist|
Responsibilities: Provide leadership and coordination for Extension educational programs in beef cattle management via applied research, result demonstrations, tours, workshops and field days. Provide technical expertise, training, and teaching materials for county Extension agents, specialists, clientele and organizations across the state. Work both individually and as a team member in planning, executing and evaluating result demonstration tours, field days and seminars. Develop and/or maintain close communication strategies with the Texas beef cattle industry through associations, organizations, cooperatives and individual producers.
Qualifications: A Doctorate in Animal Science, or closely related field. The equivalent of five years experience in Extension, teaching, research or similar work is required. Expertise is required in one or more of the following areas: nutrition, genetics, or reproductive physiology. Successful applicant must have demonstrated interest and/or expertise in working with beef producers, industry consultants, and allied industry. Understanding of the job responsibilities of an Extension Specialist is required, along with adequate training to conduct, interpret and publish translational research with direct application to the beef cattle industry. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with people, engage in a systems approach to problem solving, utilize a variety of modern education delivery and research methods, and a willingness to respond to policy, administration and supervision. Applicant must be proficient in oral and written communications and must have interpersonal relations skills to work closely with the beef cattle industry. Computer proficiency is required.
Facilities: The successful candidate will be headquartered in Amarillo, Texas and will have access to facility resources of the Texas A&M University Agricultural Research and Extension Center at Amarillo, Texas.
Administrative Relationships: The individual selected will be a member of the faculty in the Department of Animal Science and will respond to Extension Administration through the Department Head and Associate Department Head for Extension. The successful candidate will cooperate with Regional Program Leaders for agriculture and natural resources, district Extension administrators, resident directors of research, county Extension agents, other specialists and researchers in planning, conducting and evaluating educational programs and work closely with Extension beef and livestock specialists and with Texas A&M AgriLife Research faculty conducting research related to cattle management, herd health, environmental issues, etc. The potential exists to develop linkages with West Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University and Texas Cattle Feeders Association.
