Position Title: Assistant Professor - Ruminant Nutrition
Part/Full:Full Time

The University of Missouri invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Ruminant Nutrition in the Division of Animal Sciences, an academic unit of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. This tenure‐track, 12‐month position will have 60% research and 40% teaching responsibilities. The selected candidate is expected to develop a nationally‐recognized independent and collaborative research program capable of obtaining extramural support.

Research emphasis should have both basic and whole‐animal components related to ruminant nutrition, which may include ruminal fermentation, nutritional physiology, metabolism, biochemistry, microbiology, and/or growth biology. Concomitantly the candidate is expected to become involved in collaborative, interdisciplinary projects in the Division and University. The successful candidate will be expected to teach ruminant nutrition‐related courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, while developing and contributing to an active graduate student training program.

Excellent research and teaching facilities available include: ruminant nutrition, metabolism, physiology, and molecular laboratory space and equipment; continuous culture and in vitro fermentation systems; Beef Research and Teaching Farm including feedlot with >600 head individual intake capacity (GrowSafe and Calan gate), metabolism facility, and commercial cowherd (spring‐ and fall‐calving); Foremost Dairy Research Center with conventional registered Holstein (180 cows) and commercial pasture‐based (50 cows) herds, Calan gate facility, and intensive research barn (tie‐stalls and attached laboratory); on‐campus abattoir and meat processing facility; and outlying research stations (4 with beef cowcalf or stocker grazing operations). Additionally, excellent collaborative opportunities exist with the Division of Plant Science, College of Veterinary Medicine, Center for Agroforestry, and other units on campus.

Required qualifications:
• Ph.D. in animal science or related field
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in research and teaching, ideally in an area that will complement existing Division programs
• Ability to communicate with faculty, staff, students, and the various constituency groups of the Missouri and U.S. ruminant animal industries
