The Department of Animal and Food Sciences (ANFS) at the University of Delaware (UD) is strengthening a campus-wide initiative in One Health by hiring two faculty members in the areas of animal physiology and immunology. One search will be conducted to find two scholars whose work will complement each other and add new dimensions to the One Health initiative at the University. ANFS is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor (60% research, 40% teaching) for a nine-month, academic-year appointment who will teach courses and conduct contemporary research in the field of animal physiology as it relates to One Health. The individual will be expected to develop a self-supporting, collaborative, multidisciplinary research program that may include, but is not limited to, areas such as molecular genetics, epigenetics, genome editing, alternative animal production and management, or reproductive, immunological, metabolic, and physiological disorders. Teaching responsibilities will include laboratory-based courses in anatomy and physiology. This teaching role is critically important to maintain and enhance one of the top pre-veterinary medicine programs in the United States. UD is home to the prestigious College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the interdisciplinary Department of Animal and Food Sciences. The Department consists of 22 full-time faculty members actively engaged in the core research areas of infectious diseases, genomics, immunology, microbiology including food safety, physiology and nutrition. The affiliated Delaware Biotechnology Institute provides outstanding core facilities to support research of faculty and students. The Animal and Food Sciences undergraduate programs are in high demand with over 350 students enrolled and we place a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research and discovery-based learning. Candidates should have Ph.D. or D.V.M./V.M.D. with post-doctoral research experience in physiology, anatomy, animal science, biology or a related discipline. Successful candidates will have an understanding and appreciation of the One Health initiative as applied to production animal systems and demonstrated experience with modern research technologies. The successful candidate will teach 2 courses with labs per year, engage undergraduates in academic and career advising, mentor undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral researchers, and develop productive outreach collaborations.
